Okoja Threatens Ibaka Deep Sea Project- May soon go to court.

An outburst by the Chairman of Nigerian Maritime Concession Company, Rear Admiral Andrew Okoja (rtd), is threatening the smooth running of the ongoing Ibaka Deep Sea Port Project in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. In his argument, Okoja claims to be the fountain of the idea that brought about the project.

He alleged that when the project was to be enacted he was completely shut out of the whole show. The retired Admiral who was duly represented by one of his company’s manager said that the idea of the deep Sea Port Project was his thesis while he was undergoing a course in the Nigerian Institute of Police and Strategic Studies (NIPSS),  in 1993.

He was said to have presented the perfected version of thesis to the Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua with a caption “Port Development in Nigeria”. The paper was then referred to the Minister of Transport by the Presidency in conjunction with the Senate President. Sequel to this, he was invited by the Ministry of Transport and NPA for further discussions.

Arising from this successful session, he was invited in October 22, 2009 by the Minister of Transport to further elucidate on the project which he did successfully.

However, when it was time for the project to be executed, the Admiral and his Company was totally side-lined by NPA and the Akwa Ibom State government. This being a very bitter pill for him to swallow, has prompted a litigation threat by the Admiral against what he calls theft.
