For failing to appoint more practitioners into the governing board of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), the Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers (NIFFCB) has flayed the constitution of the board, saying those appointed lack merit and professional capabilities.
National president of NIFFCB, Dr. Zebulon Ikokide, in a chat with Business and Maritime West Africa explained that apart from Alhaji Moshood Tijani’s wealth of experience in freight forwarding practice, none of the appointees understand what the council was set up to achieve.
Those appointed into the Governing Council of the CRFFN include Hon. Donatus Ozoemena, and Benson Edosomwan.
Others are Abubakar Tsanni, Hassan Jonga, Sen. Bisi Oyewo and Otunba Moshood Tijani
The NIFFCB boss noted that in line with the act establishing CRFFN, the council could be rejuvenated if other members of the board will appoint or elect the governor of Tijaco Company Limited, Moshood Tijani, as chairman.
"On the appointment of board members for the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN ), I will be quick to say that, it is a good thing that they are rejuvenating the Council but the board lacks the necessary professionals that can properly and actually rejuvenate the Council.
"The consolation is that the board may do election of freight forwarders into the board as provided in the CRFFN Act. I know that the board members will not allow the only one practicing freight forwarder on the board to be their chairman.
"Alhaji Moshood Tijani is the only practicing freight forwarder on the board. The only good thing there is that I hope that the council will start to properly function now," Ikokide stated.
On how to influence the only practicing freight forwarder on the board to become chairman, Ikokide said "it is still a political appointment and whoever the political class endorsed will click the chairmanship slot."
He however called on freight forwarders and licensed customs agents to support the new board members in order to rejuvenate the council from its present predicament.
