Over 3,665 vehicles with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over N13 billion were seized by the Nigeria Customs Service from 2015 to August 2017 .
In 2015, a total of 1,917 vehicles were seized with DPV of N3.856 billion and 1,483 vehicles were seized in 2016 with DPV of valued N2.683 billion. Between January to August this year, 265 were seized with DPV of N6.625 billion.
The relative high value recorded in 2017 was accounted for by the crash of the naira and the fact that most of the vehicles were of high value. Among the vehicles were 15 bullet proof vehicle while of the 18 vehicles seized in September in Abuja over non duty payment, 13 were bullet proof vehicles of which 10 had no Customs papers whatsoever.
The comptroller general of the service, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) revealed this while speaking in Abuja.
